David Cameron has resigned as Prime Minister of Britain in an emotional speech outside 10 Downing Street. His resignation followed a landmark referendum that saw the country voting to leave the European Union.

Mr. Cameron’s voice broke as he announced the cabinet would meet on Monday to draw up a time-table for his exit as leader of the world fifth largest economy. A new prime minister is expected to be elected in October.

Nigeria: New IGP Orders Officers To Declare Assets

All officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) to Inspector-General of Police, will henceforth declare their assets, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has declared.

Idris made the statement on Thursday in Abuja when he paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (retd). He said that the directive was in line with Section 13 cap 15 Code of Conduct Act.

“Every police officer from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police to Inspector-General who are commission officers must declare their assets,’’ Idris said.

Cameroon: EFCC To Assist Cameroon Recover Asset

The acting Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has expressed the readiness of the Commission to assist the Cameroonian government in the area of asset tracking and recovery. He was speaking to a five-man delegation from Cameroon in his office.

 ‘‘The Commission will be willing to exchange ideas and experiences with your country in necessary areas as you may desire. I wish to also thank you for your interest in the activities of the Commission, Magu said.’’

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Aseh Joseph Malegho, stated that the success story of the Commission had travelled far and wide through different media.

 “Your actions are laudable. We commend you and the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, for your efforts in ridding Nigeria of corruption. Your anti-graft war has endeared you to us; that is why we have come to identify with your Commission, Malegho said.’’

Malegho also appealed to the EFCC boss to share his experience in the areas of asset tracing, freezing and recovery as well as how the recovered assets were being ploughed back into the country’s economy.

Cameroon: Men Soon Could Be Jailed For Adultery

Cameroon's parliament has voted to change the country's penal code to criminalize adultery for men. Until now, adultery has been a criminal act for women only. The changes approved late Wednesday are expected to be endorsed by both the Senate and President Paul Biya, who had proposed the revision.

The penal code says women should be punished for adultery with two to six months in prison or with fines of up to about $175. Men would face the same punishment under the expected changes. Barrister Nick Tazoh of the Cameroon Bar Council says the law is taking the central African country backward and will send more people to already congested prisons.

BREAKING NEWS: Ministry Of Finance Workers Demand Adeosun’s Sack

The Workers of the Ministry of Finance on Monday embarked on a protest demanding the immediate removal of the Minister, Mrs Kemi Adeosun.

Their grievance is over the non-payment of what they termed their allowances, which they say amounts to N1.2 billion. They equally accused Adeosun of collecting her own allowances without any consideration for theirs. One of such allowances, they alleged, was the N30 million for house rent annually. They also said she was high handed.

Sources within the ministry however said the protest was unwarranted. The Permanent Secretary, Mahmud Isa-Dutse, said the N1.2 billion was an illegal payment that the workers have been receiving at the beginning of the year before now. The money is said not to be captured in the Ministry’s 2016 Budget, hence Adeosun’s position not to pay the staff the sum.

A source at the ministry said the only salary yet to be paid was that of June, which is not yet due for payment. He described the demand for the N1.2 billion as “illegal” as it was not captured in the 2016 Budget.

Military Arrests 19 Niger Delta Avengers, Foils Attack On Agip Pipeline

The Joint Military Force deployed to protect oil installations in the Niger Delta, Operation Pulo Shield, on Friday said it foiled an attack on Agip’s oilfield and arrested 19 suspected vandals in several operations in May and June 2016.

Col. Isa Ado, Spokesman of the force, said in a statement said that troops have intensified patrols to forestall further destruction of oil facilities following renewed attacks in the region.

According to Isa, troops while on patrol on June 9 along Brass water ways of Bayelsa foiled an attempt by suspected pipeline vandals to destroy Agip’s oil pipeline at Okpoma Community. He explained that the suspected vandals had dug and planted dynamites beneath the pipeline location in a swamp for detonation before the troops foiled the sabotage operation. The joint force recovered two dynamite detonators, cable wire and battery.

Vietnam Jet Goes Missing While Searching For Lost Pilot And Fighter Jet

A Vietnamese coastguard plane, which was searching for a missing fighter jet and its pilot, disappeared off the radar on Thursday, state media and a military official said, the second such setback in three days. The plane was carrying nine people when it went missing off the northern province of Haiphong province about noon local time, local media reported, citing military and provincial sources.

The coastguard plane was joining thousands of people looking for a pilot who went missing with a Sukhoi SU-30 MK2 fighter jet on Tuesday along the central part of the country coastline. A military official working on the rescue confirmed the plane was missing and the numbers on board but requested anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

Bernie Sanders Vows To Help Hillary Clinton Beat Donald Trump, But Keeps On Campaigning

Bernie Sanders promised on Thursday to work with presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton to defeat Republican Donald Trump in the Nov. 8 election, but did not formally pull out of the race for the White House.

Sanders did not endorse Clinton during an online speech to his supporters, but made it clear he was shifting his focus to building a grassroots movement to fight for his liberal policy agenda and transform the Democratic Party.

"The major political task that we face in the next five months is to make certain that Donald Trump is defeated and defeated badly, and I personally intend to begin my role in that process in a very short period of time. I also look forward to working with Secretary Clinton to transform the Democratic Party so that it becomes a party of working people and young people, and not just wealthy campaign contributors," he said in a speech broadcast from his hometown of Burlington, Vermont.

Sanders, who has resisted pressure from Democrats to exit the White House race and back Clinton since she clinched the party nomination last week, said he would keep fighting for his goals of reducing income inequality, removing big money from politics and reining in Wall Street.

"Defeating Donald Trump cannot be our only goal. We must continue our grassroots efforts to create the America that we know we can become," he said. "And we must take that energy into the Democratic National Convention on July 25 in Philadelphia where we will have more than 1,900 delegates."

Trump May Be Replaced at GOP Convention

There is growing talk on the right of replacing Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s presumptive nominee for president, and even chatter about a possible alternative.

As Trump has floundered over the past week after questioning a federal judge’s impartiality because of his Mexican ancestry, Trump’s critics within the GOP have stepped up their efforts to thwart him.

Some anti-Trump conservatives, who have tried for months to recruit an independent candidate, have begun looking more closely at attempting to persuade delegates at next month’s GOP convention to nominate someone other than Trump.

“There is a rapidly moving train toward the convention to try to obstruct it at the convention. Trump in the last 72 hours has given hope to people who think it’s now possible,” said Erick Erickson, a conservative radio talk show host and one of Trump’s most resolute critics.

“He’s starting to give everybody hope that he should be stopped at the convention,” Erickson said. He also cautioned that if Trump “cleans up his act, then I think that hope will go away.”

Kim Jong Un Caught Smoking During Anti-Smoking Drive

North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un appears not to be practicing what his government is preaching. The country's state media published a photograph this week of Kim holding a cigarette in his hand -- with smoke permeating from the tip -- in the middle of a North Korea anti-smoking drive.

 The photo was taken while Kim was "providing field guidance to the remodelled Mangyongdae Children's Camp," in the capital Pyongyang, according to state-run news agency KCNA. On May 5, 2016, CNN toured the Man Gyong Dae School Children's Palace, an after school activity complex, in Pyongyang.

Husband and Wife Caught Stealing, Publicly Disgraced

A husband and his wife were publicly disgraced after they were caught stealing innside  a supermarket. The couple pictured above were publicly disgraced when the attendants of a supermarket in Nairobi, Kenya, caught them stealing some items from the store.

They were reportedly forced by the attendants to stand at the most conspicuous part of the market and colourfully announce their crime. The things they stole were displayed at their feet. 

Cameroon's Oil Output Rose Nearly 20% In 2016

Cameroon's crude oil production rose 19.4%, or 12.3 million barrels (MMbbl), between January and April compared with a year earlier, the state oil company SNH said on June 7, without giving a reason for the higher production.

The Central African country has been pumping oil since 1977, hitting a peak of 185 Mbbl/d 10 years later before slipping.

National Hydrocarbons Corp. (SNH) said in a statement that gas production, however, fell 5.8% compared with the same period last year, due to a decline in demand for gas from its Kribi gas plant.

Cameroon earned the equivalent of US$142 million, in CFA francs, from its oil and gas activities between January and April, SNH said.

The state firm also announced it had begun field work on its floating LNG gas project, an export plant which is being developed by Norwegian shipping company Golar LNG and is due to start production in 2017. ($1 = 577.10 CFA francs) 

Hillary Clinton Overtakes Donald Trump In Latest Polls

According to the latest Reuters polls, Hillary Clinton leads by 10 points against Donald Trump with 44.3% voters saying they would vote for her compared to 34.7% saying they would vote for Trump. Similarly, a CBC poll suggests that Hillary Clinton will get 48.9% votes over Trump's 44.9% votes, if elections were to be conducted now.

But it's the Electoral College that matters the most; each state is worth a number of Electoral College votes equal to the number of members they have in Congress, meaning that larger states are worth more votes.

The number of Electoral College votes needed to win a majority is 270. ABC projection suggests that Clinton would win 332 Electoral College votes if the election were held today. Trump would get 206.

But for now Trump has more to worry about than Clinton, while the Democrats are rallying behind Clinton staunchly, Trump has an uphill battle, with Republicans publicly disapproving his comments.

According to The Sun newspaper, the pair had been sending “text messages” to each other in recent months, before they attended the Audi Polo Challenge at Coworth Park in Berkshire, England, last month. It was at this star-studded event that their friendship apparently stepped up a notch, as onlookers reported they “couldn’t keep their eyes off each other.”

Cameroon: New Boko Haram Attack Kills 10 Fishermen

A new terrorist attack in Cameroon by the Islamist group Boko Haram killed 10 fishermen from Lake Chad at the north of the country, local television reported. The attack against these workers in the district of Darak, is part of an offensive of the terrorist group, the source added.

The Nigeria-based militant group, Boko Haram, has increased its actions in the region. Last Sunday, the group conducted an attack against the southwestern town of Bosso, Niger, during which 32 were killed and 67 were wounded.

Boko Haram spread in 2015 to other countries of the region, such as Niger, Chad, Nigeria, Cameroon and Benin. These countries formed a coalition with 8.700 soldiers to fight against the group.

According to official numbers, the fundamentalist organization has caused more than 17,000 deaths and displaced 2.6 million people since it began operating in 2009 in Nigeria with the objective of imposing an Islamic state.

Father Gets Life Sentence For Selling Daughters To Child Pornographer

 A Tennessee man who sold his three daughters to a man who raped them and used them in child pornography has been sentenced to life in prison.

U.S. District Judge J. Ronnie Greer called it one of the most horrible crimes he had ever seen when he sentenced the 63-year-old father on Monday, according to a statement from the office of acting U.S. Attorney Nancy Harr.

According to court records, both parents were involved with the abuse and exploitation of the children and were indicted in 2013.

The girls were ages 12, 14 and 16 when police discovered what happened to them, federal prosecutors said in a statement. It was not immediately clear when police made that discovery.

AP: Clinton Clinches Nomination

Hillary Clinton has secured enough delegates to win the Democratic presidential nomination, according to The Associated Press, emerging from a long and bruising primary to become the first woman to lead a major party in the race for the White House.

A bitter presidential contest that Clinton was once expected to win in a walk ended abruptly late Monday, as she claimed exactly the number of delegates needed to secure the nomination in her contest against Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, according the AP's latest tally.

Clinton was widely expected -- even inside her own campaign -- to clinch the nomination on Tuesday, when California, New Jersey and four other states are scheduled to vote. But according to the AP, Clinton continued to pick up newly committed delegates over the weekend and on Monday that effectively guarantee her the nomination.

Brazil: Acting President Pushes For Quick Impeachment Of Dilma Rousseff

Brazil's interim government on Thursday pushed for speeding up the impeachment process against suspended president Dilma Rousseff, who could be forced from office just as Rio starts hosting the Olympic Games.

Rousseff is accused of taking unauthorized loans to patch up the state budget during her 2014 re-election campaign.  In early 2015, she was suspended for the trial on May 12.

The suspension can run as long as six months, but acting president Michel Temer's team argued for ending far earlier, possibly even before the start of the Rio Olympics on August 5.

"For us, for the Temer government, it would be best if it were as quick as possible, while respecting the rules laid down by the Supreme Court," Temer's chief of staff Eliseu Padilha said.

Donald Trump: Protesters Punch, Throw Eggs at Trump Supporters at San Jose

 Protesters gathered late Thursday outside a rally for Donald Trump in California, as police braced for violence that has erupted at similar events for the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

The protesters chanted "No hate in our state" and carried signs that read "Dump Trump" as they marched near the San Jose Convention Center in northern California.

Police were out in force, at one point forming a line to allow Trump supporters access to the rally and prevent clashes that have erupted at a number of the real estate magnate's events in recent weeks.

One Trump supporter was egged while others were spit on. A protester was seen burning an American flag. Several fistfights erupted but were quickly broken up.

Extreme Weather Increasing Level Of Toxins In Food, Scientists Warn

A new report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) says that crops such as wheat and maize are generating more potential toxins as a reaction to protect themselves from extreme weather. These chemical compounds are harmful to people and animals if consumed for a prolonged period of time, according to a report released during a United Nations Environment Assembly meeting in Nairobi.

"Crops are responding to drought conditions and increases in temperature just like humans do when faced with a stressful situation," explained Jacqueline McGlade, chief scientist and director of the Division of Early Warning and Assessment at UNEP.

Under normal conditions, for instance, plants convert nitrates they absorb into nutritious amino acids and proteins. But prolonged drought slows or prevents this conversion, leading to more potentially problematic nitrate accumulating in the plant, the report said.
