Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has ordered the immediate
construction of Ekoro road in Abule-Egba to link Alagbado road and
Ajasa- Command in Ipaja area of Lagos metropolis. The governor equally
approved the construction of the deplorable Giwa Street, linking Aboru
end of Iyana-Ipaja and Abesan Estate in Ipaja. Governor Ambode, who gave
the approval during an inspection tour of the areas, expressed
displeasure at the deplorable condition of the roads, saying such is
unacceptable in the state. He assured that the projects would
accommodate walkways, streetlights and drainage systems.
Residents, who trouped out en masse to receive the august visitor and his team, lamented government’s abandonment of the area, thus depriving them of all basic infrastructure a responsive government is known for. A community leader in the area, Alhaji Abdulrazak Olajide, told the governor and his entourage that the people have suffered much in the axis due to lack of road, pipe-borne water, health facilities, electricity and schools.
In his response, Ambode said, “I find it really displeasing, disheartening and unacceptable that this road is like this. I have received letters and reports from you, hence the decision to come here myself.
“Now, I can assure you that construction work will start from the Ekoro road end to Ajasa Command within two weeks. The work will extend to Ikola area in Ipaja with drainages, walkways and streetlights on the road. We are also bringing new schools to this community, which is part of our priority in the 2016 ‘Lagos Peoples’ Budget.’” At Giwa Street in Aboru end of Iyana-Ipaja, the governor walked through the abandoned road, with a promise that work would commence on it in the next three weeks. He said his construction team had concluded plans to construct a 240-metre link bridge to connect Aboru with Abesan estate.
Ambode urged the residents to cooperate with the contractor, as he assured them that the work would also create job opportunities for residents
