President Paul Biya
As calls for President Paul Biya to stand re-election in 2018 continue to multiply, Cameroonians in the Diaspora have warned him not to accept the calls, arguing that he represents danger for Cameroon’s future.
Cameroonians in the Diaspora who are opposed to Biya’s re-election calls are grouped under the banner of the Collective Democratic Organisations and Patriotic Cameroonians in the Diaspora known by its French acronym (CODE). The Buea-based bi-weekly English Language newspaper, The Post reported that CODE’s rejection of Biya’s continuation at the helm of Cameroon after 2018 is published in the organizations’s website, lecode.canalblog.com.
They say the calls are from greedy power-mongers who want Biya to stay in power so that they can continue stealing from the State, and naïve youth who don’t have a clue of what is happening. “This is the perfect illustration of diversionary tactics which are customary to power-hungry mongers in Cameroon with the approach of elections orchestrated by their guru, Paul Biya.”
The organization predicts doom for people who traditionally send motions of support to Biya to run for another term of office. “All these admirers of the policy of Paul Biya who engage in sending motions of support, will be the first to take to their heels when their mentor is no longer in business,” CODE said. The officials claim that Biya knows that his policy is disastrous for Cameroon, and he will retire on one of the crowded prisons in Cameroon.
Cameroonians, CODE officials urge, should not give up their fight for freedom and to do so in a legitimate way. “Biya’s departure remains the necessary condition for recovery in Cameroon”, CODE said and added that, “If Paul Biya likes Cameroon, and he should leave.”
